Ronchini Contemporary Art Gallery is pleased to announce the solo exhibition of the German artist Max Neumann.
The exhibition displays 15 artworks, 4 big size canvases and a series of works on paper where the artist continues his quest: expressing the temporal human condition, the wait, the day-to-day life, the non-communication, the pessimistic alienation originating from suffering.
The shadows, figures and shapes in his works are embodiments of a human condition that goes beyond the depiction of a face and is far from any form of individualism.
Neumann’s anonymous figures reflect the collective implosion of the human psyche: faceless figures, flat bodies standing in stark and uninhabited places, engulfed in silence. Adrift characters representing the extreme of total chaos and of the current, universal solitude.
All is reduced to pure essence, the stroke is firm, minimal, the color is clear and full with tempera or diluted in red, black, white, dark green, yellow. There is no defined reference to a time or a place in his pictorial compositions. The faceless man is a timeless individual lost in a world in which he can not be mirrored.
“From the absence of a not defined description comes a greater intensity and universality” – says the artist – “despite not having eyes, the individuals in my paintings look at who is observing them.”
Max Neumann was born in Saarbruecken in 1949, he lives and works in Berlin.
His biography is rich in international exhibitions.
