Ronchini Contemporary Art Gallery is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition of the Austrian artist Markus Hofer, original sculptor who creates “objects” by intervening directly into the imagination that surrounds us.
For this exhibition Hofer has realized a new series of site-specific works: tubes, jars, sinks, watering cans take on new formal possibilities, thanks to the artist’s great skills. They give birth to extraordinary sculptures that, although originating from existing objects, introduce us into the universe of eccentricity, disconcerting and enchanting us through constant discovery.
The singular artist’s ability and meticulousness in working different materials and particularly resins, generates a faultless rendering of the object that leads directly into a state of mental confusion towards actuality, where even the most banal object reveals an unexpected essence.
The artist plays while communicating with reality, he reverses, reinterprets and personalizes it, in an absolute simple and light way evoking pop memories and leading the observer into a dimension in between paradox and amazement; his interventions are clean and direct and active matter and colour are the protagonists.
The viewer’s expectations are zeroed and catapulted rapidly into an original symbolism, soaked with fine aesthetics where objects, colours, shapes and actions generate new horizons of possibilities.
Hofer always asks the viewers for a participation made of complicity and support that question the perception of the senses and lead to an awakening that goes beyond our superficial knowledge.
Markus Hofer was born in Haslach (Austria) in 1977. He lives and works in Vienna.
He first studied at the University of Artistic and Industrial Creation in Linz and afterwards at Berlin-Weissense School of Art and Design, ending his course of studies at the Academy of Art in Vienna.

In 2010 at Kastowsky e Raum mit Licht art galleries in Vienna, he participated in the exhibition Aktive Materie at Rudolf Budja gallery in Salzburg, in Die Agentur der Dinge at Triesen EMB Contemporary Art and in künstlerisch dokumentiert, at Kunsthandel Bachleitner in Graz; in 2009 he took part in Tracing Abstract at the Dokumentationszentrum für moderne Kunst in St. Pölten, in Im Fokus at the State Museum in Rohrbach at Villa Sinnenreich, in Flavors of Austria at The Art Foundation in Athens, in The Beauty of the Mistake at LX factory in Lisbon, in Videoabend at Verein 08 in Vienna, in the Optica Festival in Gijon in Spain; in 2008 in Space Invasion at the Östereichisches Museum für Volkskunde in Vienna; in 2007 in Kunstzelle at WUK in Vienna, in artMart at the Künstlerhaus in Vienna.
