NARNI – ROCCA ALBORNOZ
Inauguration Sunday 28 October
11:00 am
Ronchini Contemporary Art, in collaboration with the Municipality of Narni and with the support of the Province of Terni, is pleased to announce the solo exhibition by the artist Paolo Serra, to be held in the exposition rooms of Narni’s Rocca Albornoz.
The exhibition is part of a project aimed at the creation of a Contemporary Art Center, a permanent exposition space that enhances the Albornoz fortress, the territory of Narni and the province of Terni.
The exhibition, containing 25 works, traces the experimentation with light, form and space that has always characterized the artist’s work.
In Paolo Serra’s work – as Achille Bonito wrote – we can find stratifications of the moral figures of Mondrian, Malevic, Albers, Reinhardt, Newman and Rothko, like forebears watching over the evolution of abstract language up to the threshold of the XXI century. His iconography incorporates the atmosphere of Zen philosophy, capable of conciliating plan and chance, geometry and indeterminacy, form and material.
Paolo Serra was born in Morciano di Romagna in 1946, but had his artistic education in England, where he moved as a young boy. After the great success of his first solo exhibition in 1962 at the Century Gallery in Northampton, he had solo shows in many European cities, including London and Amsterdam. In Paris, he participated in the Salon Des Réalités Nouvelles and showed at the English pavilion at the XII Biennial of Sao Paolo in Brazil. In recent years he has also taken part in the most prestigious European art fairs, such as the Fiac in Paris, Art Cologne and Art Basel, where he showed at nearly all the editions of the 1990s. His works have been acquired by important museums, credit institutions and foundation worldwide.
Today, the artist lives and works in Castelleale di San Clemente, in the province of Rimini.
On the occasion of this exhibition, the book Paolo Serra Opere 1961 – 2007, published by Edizioni Gli Ori, with texts by Kenneth Baker, Achille Bonito Oliva, Francis Neumann and Alexandra Henze Triebold, will be presented.
Participating in the presentation: Andrea Silipo, Councilman for Culture of the Municipality of Narni, Bruno Corà and Angelo Bucarelli. |
